Although Mumbai life is very hectic. But there are places around Mumbai and Pune which stand out because of its beauty and peace.

Let’s get out of Mumbai and Pune for some of the marvelous spots with green hills, lush forests, flowing springs and glinting waterfalls making for the best experience of trekking in Maharashtra. 

Here is the list of 5 short and easy treks around Mumbai and Pune.

1. Lohgad

Lohgad fort Lohgad fort near Lonavala is a beauty. As the name suggests it is truly the “Iron fort”. The walls and doors are still intact. The view from the top is breathtaking. It is right opposite Visapur Fort.

Don’t forget to visit the “Vinchu Kata”.

2. Karnala Fort

Today, the ruins of the fort are a popular destination for hiking and tourism. It is trek of 1 hour from the bottom of the hill. There are 5 resting places on the pathway made by forest department. The final climbing steps near the entrance of the fort are made safe by iron railings. It is not advisable to cook food at the base of the pinnacle, as the smell of smoke irritates the Honey Bees. The water from the southernmost rock-cut water cistern is potable. First aid is available at the forest guest house.

3. Peth Fort

Kothaligad  (also called Kotligad/ Kothligad/Peth) is a small Fort (3100 ft) is situated to the east of Karjat near Karjat-Murbad Road.

There are a small temple and large cave at the base and a chimney like a tunnel to the top of the fort. This pinnacle is carved from inside forming a staircase reaching the top. There is a tank of water(rock-cut water cistern) at some distance from the cave and another one at the top of the fort.

4. Tikona

Tikona is the dominant hill fort in Maval in western India. It is located near Kamshet around 60 km from Pune. The village nearest to the fort is called Tikona-Peth. The 3500 ft high hill is pyramidal in shape and the name Tikona means “triangular”.

The fort is a trekking destination noted for the large doors, the temple of ‘Trimbakeshwar Mahadev’, a water tanks (seven water tanks) and some Satvahan caves. Trek organizers also commend the views of Pawna dam and the nearby forts of Tung, Lohagadand Visapur.

5. Korigad Fort

Korigad is an easy trek of just an hour. Korigad was captured by Shivaji along with the forts of Lohagad and Tung. This is a very easy beginner level trek as you just have to walk for 15-20 minutes and then you have to take steps to reach the top. Korigad trek can be done at any time of the year but you can enjoy the misty view only in monsoon.
